You, your family, and your friends are cordially invited to the 2025 annual Sanctuary Homecoming Potluck! Festivities begin immediately after the worship service on Sunday, September 7th and will take place in Fellowship Hall. We’ll share an excellent meal, get to know each other better, and even play a few games. Dress is casual. The church will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, and all the fixings, along with drinks and table settings. If you would like to bring a dish to pass, please do!

Founded by Michele Austin in 2013, the Oakland County Foster Closet supports foster families in Oakland, Macomb, and Wayne Counties. It provides services to at-risk, adopted, foster, and qualified low-income children, supported by community financial resources, in-kind donations, fundraisers, and grants. Michelle knew firsthand that foster children often enter the system with nothing but the clothes on their backs, so she collected clothing, shoes, bedding and diapers, and operated the closet out of her home. As OCFC grew in popularity among families in need, the nonprofit moved into a 4,000-square-foot building in Farmington Hills. Their services help reduce financial strain for foster families by freeing up funds that would otherwise be used to fulfill immediate needs like clothing and diapers, which are not always paid for by state agencies. This enables foster families to use their funds to help children adapt to their homes. Michelle acts as the OCFC director and is passionate about their mission that every child has a loving environment where they can grow and thrive. Michelle will share her story of faith at the Mission Moment on Sunday, August 3 after worship in Fellowship Hall. Please be aware that they accept donations of clothing and equipment for preemies through teenage children, and volunteers are always welcome to help organize them for family shopping.

UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN PRISON CREATIVE ART PROJECT Can you imagine 18 prison art workshops taking place in 2022, serving over 300 incarcerated prisoners, and 714 works of art by 443 incarcerated artists being included in an Annual Exhibition? That is what the U of M Prison Creative Art Project has done. Founded in 1990 with a single theatre workshop, PCAP has grown to include undergraduate courses, exhibitions, publications, a prison reentry arts program, and events that reach thousands of individuals each year. It brings those impacted by the justice system together with the University of Michigan community for artistic collaboration, mutual learning, and growth. PCAP programs include: An Annual Art Exhibition on the U of M campus featuring prisoners’ art from every state prison in Michigan. Courses and workshops for undergraduate participation in prison arts workshops and training in issues of incarceration and the arts. A Literary review highlighting the talent and diversity of Michigan’s incarcerated artists. A Linkage Project connecting artists with professional development resources and a peer support network. Come to the Mission Moment after worship on July 13 to hear Mattie Leavy, PCAP Engagement Coordinator, give an overview of the project. This is another opportunity to support prisoner reentry positively impacting our communities.
