Mission Moment
Mission Moment
It all started in 2022, when Angel Flewellyn began preparing a Sunday dinner for 12 homeless people. Now she prepares meals for almost 100, six days a week, at the Rosa Parks Transit Center in Detroit. She calls her ministry the Sunday Best Crew so the homeless can enjoy a home-cooked nutritious meal traditionally served on Sunday. Thanks to Angel, homeless seniors, veterans, young adults aged out of the foster care, and others struggling with mental illness, can increase their healthy eating habits and decrease the risk of serious health problems. Most of the people she feeds do not qualify for government food assistance because they lack proper identification, which prevents their access to health care and services, and leaves them more vulnerable to chronic disease and illness. The Outreach Team selected this ministry to support the increasing number of vulnerable people in Detroit lining up for their only source of food. We will be asking for donations of lunch bag suitable fresh fruit to bring to church on Sept. 24, which we will deliver that day. You may also donate money during September towards the use of a food truck in the future. For more information go to sundaybestcrew.org or come to the Mission Moment after church on Sept.17 to watch a television broadcast about her ministry. Please see Janice or Harriet if you have any questions.

Mission Moment
Mission Moment
The Outreach Team has selected a World Mission Offering mission project for October because it addresses food insecurity outside the U.S. White Cross funds are used for the Myanmar Medical Care and Food project to fulfill requests for goods and supplies that aid in recovery from devastating events. The Myanmar Baptist Convention (MBC) has mobilized local churches to minister to the needs of the internally displaced people in Myanmar, a disaster-prone region of the world, where the extremely poor are often those least able to recover from overwhelming disaster. They have distributed rice, oil, beans, canned fish, eggs, noodles, and water that helps fight off diarrhea, dehydration, and death. The MBC plans to raise $11,764 annually for the project, 48% of which is funded for 2023, and the following items are needed. $100 provides blankets, mosquito netting and tarps as protection from monsoon rains. $250 buys food like rice, vegetables, oil, salt, beans, and sardines. $500 equips medical clinics with medications, vitamins, and medical kits. When you give to White Cross projects to feed refugees, and ensure that they receive Christian hospitality, you are doing these things for God’s glory. Please consider this in your giving to this offering.
