BE SMART FOR KIDS
Did you know that 4.6 million children in America live in homes where guns are loaded and unlocked, and in just one year 350 children, seventeen and under, gain access to a firearm and unintentionally shoot themselves or someone else?
Secure gun storage saves kids’ lives.
September Offering
Everytown for Gun Safety launched the Be SMART campaign in 2015 to take action to promote responsible gun ownership and reduce child gun deaths. Its focus is on education and awareness of child gun deaths and secure gun storage. Be SMART volunteers deliver a 20-minute presentation about kids, guns, and safety to local groups and organizations that encourages parents and caretakers to take simple steps to help prevent shootings by children.
Be SMART presents solutions for America’s gun violence crisis and saves lives through gun sense education. Its public awareness campaign makes adults aware of Michigan’s new law requiring gun owners with a minor in the home to store firearms in a locked storage container.
Jeffrey Bozell, on staff with the Be SMART program, will present a video presentation after worship on September 22nd. The Outreach team invites you to hear how this nonprofit delivers a vital message about gun safety that you can support.
