Samaritas New American services provides newly arrived refugees from 15 different countries with the essential refugee services and support they need to begin to rebuild their lives and take steps toward becoming U.S. citizens. They have welcomed more than 3 million refugees from around the world in the last 40 years, providing a lifeline for the most vulnerable refugees at a time of unprecedented global crisis. Gather with on July 17th immediately following our worship service to learn more about Samaritas from Rev. Taking advantage of the City of Birmingham's very successful annual sidewalk sales event happening this year on Saturday, July 30, we are having our own sidewalk sale at the same time! As part of the total church clean-up effort, we have pulled together everything from lamps to filing cabinets to art supplies to mirrors (LOTS of mirrors) that we will be selling at our own sale. We anticipate starting the sale at 11 am and closing down around 4 pm. Zaman's Rising Hope Bakery is supported by two state-of-the-art commercial kitchens where women receive professional culinary arts training, complete apprenticeships, and secure employment. The bakery creates delicious product-to-market items that help fund onsite employment opportunities for these women. Alongside Zaman’s Good Deeds Resale Shop, Client-Choice Food Pantry and Literacy and Sewing Centers, the bakery is central to efforts to provide holistic client-centric services including everything from food and clothes to entrepreneurship training and onsite employment opportunities. Gary Waxler, the bakery director, will be at Sanctuary after worship on Sunday, August 7 to give an overview of Zaman and bring their delicious cookies for our treats.
