September Mission Offering | Welcome Inn Day Center Welcome Inn Day Center, operated by South Oakland Citizens for the Homeless, has served South Oakland County since 2003 as the area’s only low barrier winter day center. Located in the former Star Presbyterian Church in Royal Oak, it provides a safe, dignified space for people experiencing homelessness. Key services include: Winter emergency shelter (Dec–Mar) Warm meals Case management for housing, employment, and social services Medical and health support Clothing and outerwear Showers, laundry, and hygiene facilities In July, the South Oakland Faith Alliance partnered with Welcome Inn to gather 10 faith communities and volunteers for a service day to prepare the building for its November 1 opening. Welcome Inn’s five year plan is to expand into a year round, 24hour residential shelter for 60 people—filling a critical gap between two shelters located 24 miles apart. Their commitment to expand is driven by the loss of a resident who died on the streets last winter. Come to the Mission Moment after worship on Sept. 20 to hear Director, Heather Duenas inform us about this organization. Community members may support the homeless through their donations to the Welcome Inn.
