SUMMARY:Mission Moment
DESCRIPTION:Beloved Community Campaign | Embracing Multiculturalism | August Mission Offering \nFor nearly 200 years\, American Baptist Home Mission Societies has equipped Christian leaders to serve\, heal\, and transform communities. \nAmerican Baptists have a strong heritage of cultural diversity\, racial understanding\, and inclusion. Continuing that tradition\, ABHMS Intercultural Ministries promotes sharing and learning across Asian\, Haitian\, Latino\, and Native American churches\, and its Intercultural Leadership Institute trains leaders for culturally diverse ministry. Its mission is “to lift up\, heal\, and transform the lives of people who are suffering with racism\, poverty\, trauma\, and educational disadvantages.” \nThe Beloved Community Campaign offers programs\, grants\, scholarships\, webinars\, and online resources that help ministers and lay leaders serve their communities with cultural responsiveness. Your generosity will support the ABMS mission to demonstrate compassion\, understanding\, and respect across diverse racial and ethnic communities. Learn more about this ministry at the Mission Moment after church on August 2nd in the parlor.

SUMMARY:Mission Moment
DESCRIPTION:SandCastles Grief Support Program\, established in 1997 by Henry Ford Hospice\, believes that every child and teen deserves the opportunity to grieve in a supportive\, nurturing environment. This mission is seen in their annual summer camp where grieving youth\, ages 3 to 18\, can interact with peers who have experienced similar losses and learn lifelong coping skills to begin the healing process. Monthly support groups are also offered where families come together with staff and facilitators for dinner and fellowship. SandCastles is a nonprofit that depends on donations\, fundraisers\, and grants to serve the community and keep their programs running because they don’t charge for their services. Sanctuary donations will be designated for this year’s summer camp. We welcomed their staff to our Mission Moment after worship on June 7th to hear about their services.

SUMMARY:Mission Moment
DESCRIPTION:Our March mission offering is for KIVA\, an international nonprofit organization that helps marginalized people worldwide who do not have access to banks\, credit cards or debit cards to obtain short term loans. KIVA was established in 2005 when the first loan was given to a woman who had a fish mongering business and sold fish in baskets to local markets in Uganda. A $500 loan changed her life. Nineteen years later\, 5 million people have received loans through this organization. \nIn 2019\, an account was opened by our church and started with $805. Joan Trusty took care of this account and through KIVA we loaned out $3\,915 to 369 people in 61 countries. The loans are paid back by the recipients and then the money is loaned out again. \nIn Joan’s last days\, she began withdrawing the money from our account with KIVA and returning it to Sanctuary. The Outreach Team has decided to reinstate the account with previous funds and using our March mission offering to add to the account. We are calling it The Joan Trusty Memorial KIVA Fund. Paige Moore-Anderson will help us manage the account and help select the KIVA recipients. \nYou are invited to come to the parlor after services on March 8th to hear Paige tell us more about this organization.

Career Dress relies on the financial contributions\, donations\, and volunteer efforts of individuals and companies in Southeast Michigan. A donation of $50-$75 dresses a woman for an interview. \nWe welcomed Lois Boyd\, President of the Board of Directors\, to tell us about this nonprofit after worship in the parlor on Sunday\, February 1st. Your offering will help equip women for success in the workplace.
