DESCRIPTION:Founded by Michele Austin in 2013\, the Oakland County Foster Closet supports foster families in Oakland\, Macomb\, and Wayne Counties. It provides services to at-risk\, adopted\, foster\, and qualified low-income children\, supported by community financial resources\, in-kind donations\, fundraisers\, and grants. \nMichelle knew firsthand that foster children often enter the system with nothing but the clothes on their backs\, so she collected clothing\, shoes\, bedding and diapers\, and operated the closet out of her home. As OCFC grew in popularity among families in need\, the nonprofit moved into a 4\,000-square-foot building in Farmington Hills. \nTheir services help reduce financial strain for foster families by freeing up funds that would otherwise be used to fulfill immediate needs like clothing and diapers\, which are not always paid for by state agencies. This enables foster families to use their funds to help children adapt to their homes. \nMichelle acts as the OCFC director and is passionate about their mission that every child has a loving environment where they can grow and thrive. Michelle will share her story of faith at the Mission Moment on Sunday\, August 3 after worship in Fellowship Hall. Please be aware that they accept donations of clothing and equipment for preemies through teenage children\, and volunteers are always welcome to help organize them for family shopping.

DESCRIPTION:UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN PRISON CREATIVE ART PROJECT \nCan you imagine 18 prison art workshops taking place in 2022\, serving over 300 incarcerated prisoners\, and 714 works of art by 443 incarcerated artists being included in an Annual Exhibition? That is what the U of M Prison Creative Art Project has done. \nFounded in 1990 with a single theatre workshop\, PCAP has grown to include undergraduate courses\, exhibitions\, publications\, a prison reentry arts program\, and events that reach thousands of individuals each year. It brings those impacted by the justice system together with the University of Michigan community for artistic collaboration\, mutual learning\, and growth. \nPCAP programs include: \n\nAn Annual Art Exhibition on the U of M campus featuring prisoners’ art from every state prison in Michigan.\nCourses and workshops for undergraduate participation in prison arts workshops and training in issues of incarceration and the arts.\nA Literary review highlighting the talent and diversity of Michigan’s incarcerated artists.\nA Linkage Project connecting artists with professional development resources and a peer support network.\n\nCome to the Mission Moment after worship on July 13 to hear Mattie Leavy\, PCAP Engagement Coordinator\, give an overview of the project. DESCRIPTION:BE SMART FOR KIDS \nDid you know that 4.6 million children in America live in homes where guns are loaded and unlocked\, and in just one year 350 children\, seventeen and under\, gain access to a firearm and unintentionally shoot themselves or someone else? \nSecure gun storage saves kids’ lives. \nSeptember Offering \nEverytown for Gun Safety launched the Be SMART campaign in 2015 to take action to promote responsible gun ownership and reduce child gun deaths. Its focus is on education and awareness of child gun deaths and secure gun storage. Be SMART volunteers deliver a 20-minute presentation about kids\, guns\, and safety to local groups and organizations that encourages parents and caretakers to take simple steps to help prevent shootings by children. \nBe SMART presents solutions for America’s gun violence crisis and saves lives through gun sense education. Its public awareness campaign makes adults aware of Michigan’s new law requiring gun owners with a minor in the home to store firearms in a locked storage container. \nJeffrey Bozell\, on staff with the Be SMART program\, will present a video presentation after worship on September 22nd. The Outreach team invites you to hear how this nonprofit delivers a vital message about gun safety that you can support.

DESCRIPTION:Our mission offering for the month of July will go to support Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America: “Witnessing to God’s peace\, rooted in justice. Working together until it comes.” For the past forty years BPFNA has gathered global peacemakers from churches\, nonprofits\, groups\, and individuals\, committed to non-violent solutions for conflict between persons\, organizations\, and nations. It serves over 4\,000 members in Canada\, the United States\, Mexico\, and Puerto Rico. They are equipped with resources and tools to mobilize and respond to pressing conflict concerns. BPFN also provides grants to support local and global peace projects\, peace liturgy resources\, the Baptist Peacemaker publication\, and Annual Peace Camp.
