DESCRIPTION:Our March 11th Discipleship Training will be on “Good Grief\,” a time to think about the process of grief and grieving and how they impact our lives. I have come to believe that we are all grieving something\, or multiple things\, all the time. How we deal with those thoughts\, feelings\, concepts and impacts in our lives makes a huge difference. \nAs Lent is sometimes a more somber season\, this seemed like a good topic to take on together. We will gather for a meal at 6:30 PM that evening\, then share in a program about theories of grief\, and some thoughts on how we can gain from those in our own lives. We will look at grief in the Bible and work to leave that night with some practical thoughts on what this all means to each of us. Please come and join us!  RSVP to Leona Frost so she can make sure we have food for all.

DESCRIPTION:American Baptist Churches and its partners support disaster relief\, ministries to displaced persons\, and development projects addressing chronic needs through the One Great Hour of Sharing offering. The World Relief Committee of the Board of General Ministries of American Baptist Churches administers it. In 1949\, responding to the devastation of World War II\, resident Truman spoke in a radio broadcast titled One Great Hour to ask Americans for donations and 75\,000 churches responded. This was the beginning of OGHS. \nThe Outreach Team has selected OGHS disaster relief outreach to the Kentucky flood damage that turned roads and neighborhoods into rivers in February\, causing at least 11 deaths and hundreds displaced from their homes. One climate disaster after another has pounded Kentucky. Over the last four years\, flooding in eastern Kentucky has killed more than 50 people. In December 2021\, tornadoes on the state’s western side left 80 dead. Governor Beshear said\, “This is one of the most serious weather events that we’ve dealt with in at least a decade.” \nIt is hard for us to comprehend such grief and distress. Yet\, we can reach out with our donations to OGHS disaster relief. As President Truman said many years ago\, “Since good things come to us from him\, we know that we must use them for the good of others.” Please consider this great need in Kentucky as you respond to this offering. \nPlease join us for an overview and video presentation on April 6th in the parlor after worship.

DESCRIPTION:The Jay Shop in Pontiac\, provides disadvantaged and disabled persons in Oakland County with employment and work experiences to build a foundation for a future career. Since 1965\, individuals with mental or economic hardships and former prisoners have come to The Jay Shop for valuable employment opportunities. \nThe organization hires and trains community members often overlooked by employers and enables them to achieve their highest potential of employment and earned income. They believe that rehabilitation offers second chances for workers to better their lives. They also value inclusivity where all people are treated with respect and dignity in a diverse workplace. \nA Transitional Work Program helps trainees receive workplace experience while also earning an income so they can sustain and transition to competitive employment. This includes using a computer to find jobs\, assistance in improving literacy skills\, developing resumes and training in Microsoft Office programs. Local businesses collaborate with Jay Shop to hire these trained\, dependable\, and highly motivated workers. To ensure success\, ongoing\, one-on-one support is given for new hires to increase their integration into the workforce. \nThe Outreach team encourages you to support the Jay Shop’s mission to empower disadvantaged employees. It is a “hands up” service that aligns with Sanctuary’s commitment to address the needs of the marginalized groups in our community. You’re invited to learn more about them at a Mission Moment after worship on Sunday\, May 4th in the parlor.
