DESCRIPTION:Our Mission Offering for the month of November will go to Detroit Friendship House. Friendship House is a faith based non-profit in Hamtramck\, supported by the American Baptist Home Mission Society\, which strengthens families through community connections and helps residents with basic human needs that increase self-sufficiency. There is a great need in Hamtramck where almost half of the residents live below the poverty level. Cathy Maher directs this ministry and will inform us about their services at the Mission Moment in the Parlor after worship this morning. Sanctuary will be accepting toy donations for MICAH 6 Santa’s Workshop and Friendship House November 19th through December 12th in the Welcome Center. Flyers will be available there for more information. DESCRIPTION:“Psalm68Five A father to the fatherless\, a defender of widows\, is God in his holy dwelling.” \nPSALM 68:5 was created to serve children with absent fathers because the founder wanted them to understand God’s heart for them. One in four US children live without their father\, which puts them at risk of becoming drug addicts\, school dropouts or suicide victims. This program supports them with scholarships to attend a Christian camp. One of their sites in Michigan is Higher Ground Camp at Lake Louise\, also used by American Baptist camps. One of their partners\, that also provides camp scholarships\, is the Single-Mom ministry\, spearheaded by Jennifer Finnegan-Pool. She will share information about these programs in a video at the Mission Moment on February 4 after worship.

DESCRIPTION:Hope Against Trafficking began in 2012 in Pontiac to provide a safe environment and support for adult survivors of human trafficking. They saw a need to restore survivors to thrive and reclaim their lives. At that time there were no long-term recovery programs in Michigan focused on physical\, emotional\, mental\, and spiritual issues as well as life skills and job skills development\, which they now offer. Two important programs include 2-year rent-free housing and a Human Trafficking Overview presented to over 15\,000 people. A certified\, school-based curriculum on Cyber Safety and Security is also taught to K-12 children and youth. Come and hear board member\, Jill Long\, tell you about Hope Against Trafficking at the Mission Moment on Sunday\, March 3 after worship.

The outreach team has selected Centro Multicultural La Familia\, a well established nonprofit that serves the Spanish speaking community in Pontiac. They advocate for services that address the unique needs of limited English speaking residents. Victims and survivors of domestic violence receive quality mental health counseling\, referrals to other resources\, and a peer support group. Debra Ehrman\, Director of Special Projects\, will speak about their impact in Pontiac during the Mission Moment in the Parlor directly following worship today.

DESCRIPTION:Harriet Tubman Chaplain Network \nA program of the Moral Injury Support Network for Servicewomen \nA significant majority of military women have suffered a moral injury due to their gender. Many have experienced military sexual trauma\, hazing\, extreme disrespect\, sexual harassment\, and rape. A moral injury is the psychological\, emotional\, and spiritual distress caused by participating in or witnessing events violating one’s moral code. The Moral Injury Support Network offers military women therapeutic interventions and support networks to help heal those wounds. One of their programs is the Harriet Tubman Chaplain Network\, a nonprofit that connects volunteer women chaplains with veteran servicewomen needing spiritual counseling. HTN is not affiliated with the military\, but available to women who are still serving or who have been retired or discharged. The Outreach Team will present a program video\, narrated by the network’s director\, Army Chaplain Colonel\, Karen Meeker\, at the Mission Moment on May 5 after worship.

DESCRIPTION:Our Discipleship Training classes have been blessed with Scott Moore’s wisdom\, humor and encouragement over these past four months. Scott is even planning some additional classes in the Fall! We will continue to reflect on our Baptist freedoms with so much to think about. \nOur May Discipleship Training will be a “School’s Out For Summer” event on May 14th. We will celebrate and play together\, enjoying a delicious meal and sharing in some fun games and activities. RSVP to Leona Frost so she can plan our food and I can plan our fun! Come out and enjoy our final class until September.
