DESCRIPTION:Our mission offering for the month of February will go to the New Day Foundation for Families\, a non-profit providing financial and emotional resources for families fighting cancer\, partnering with Michigan hospitals and cancer centers. The founders\, who experienced the death of their first spouses\, have told their story in a memoir which became a Hallmark movie. It will be highlighted by Jennifer Landers\, who will speak at the Mission Moment in the parlor on February 2nd directly following worship. \nNew Day Foundation for Families offers a financial bridge for Michigan families fighting cancer\, providing financial and emotional resources and partnering with Michigan hospitals and cancer centers. It began in 2007 after Michael and Gina Spehn both experienced the death of their first spouses to cancer. Because they know about crippling debt\, disruption for medical treatment\, and inadequate quality of life\, their foundation offers services that include paying everyday expenses\, partnering with licensed therapists and delivering groceries. They have told their story in a memoir\, The Color of Rain\, which became a Hallmark movie in 2014\, and they have bean featured on the Today Show. Your generosity provides Michigan families hope because every dollar means that financial and emotional stress can be relieved for more cancer families.

DESCRIPTION:The Michigan Prison Doula Initiative is a nonprofit organization that offers non-medical pregnancy\, birth\, and postpartum support to individuals affected by imprisonment. Their mission is to provide comprehensive childbirth education and professional doula services to women in Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility\, which fosters self- determination and strong family relationships. \nA doula is a non-medical professional who gives emotional and physical support before\, during\, and after childbirth. They function as a liaison between the mother and care providers at the hospital\, offering emotional reassurance\, decision-making assistance\, and physical support. After birth\, mothers will only have 1-2 days with their baby before returning to prison. The doula helps the mother bond with her baby so she can achieve the most satisfying experience possible. \nMPDI’s vision is to include opportunities for extra time and further bonding between mothers and their families\, re-entry resources\, and mentorship opportunities. Jacqueline Williams\, program founder\, says\, “The way we take care of people at their lowest point directly impacts how they return to the community and maintain the family bond … because babies born to incarcerated mothers are far more likely to end up being incarcerated themselves.” \nThis unique program can benefit from your Mission Offering to train doulas to serve incarcerated women in need of care. DESCRIPTION:Our March 11th Discipleship Training will be on “Good Grief\,” a time to think about the process of grief and grieving and how they impact our lives. I have come to believe that we are all grieving something\, or multiple things\, all the time. How we deal with those thoughts\, feelings\, concepts and impacts in our lives makes a huge difference. \nAs Lent is sometimes a more somber season\, this seemed like a good topic to take on together. We will gather for a meal at 6:30 PM that evening\, then share in a program about theories of grief\, and some thoughts on how we can gain from those in our own lives. We will look at grief in the Bible and work to leave that night with some practical thoughts on what this all means to each of us. Please come and join us!  RSVP to Leona Frost so she can make sure we have food for all.
