DESCRIPTION:The Outreach Team has selected a World Mission Offering mission project for October because it addresses food insecurity outside the U.S. \nWhite Cross funds are used for the Myanmar Medical Care and Food project to fulfill requests for goods and supplies that aid in recovery from devastating events. The Myanmar Baptist Convention (MBC) has mobilized local churches to minister to the needs of the internally displaced people in Myanmar\, a disaster-prone region of the world\, where the extremely poor are often those least able to recover from overwhelming disaster. They have distributed rice\, oil\, beans\, canned fish\, eggs\, noodles\, and water that helps fight off diarrhea\, dehydration\, and death. \nThe MBC plans to raise $11\,764 annually for the project\, 48% of which is funded for 2023\, and the following items are needed. \n\n$100 provides blankets\, mosquito netting and tarps as protection from monsoon rains.\n$250 buys food like rice\, vegetables\, oil\, salt\, beans\, and sardines.\n$500 equips medical clinics with medications\, vitamins\, and medical kits.\n\nWhen you give to White Cross projects to feed refugees\, and ensure that they receive Christian hospitality\, you are doing these things for God’s glory. DESCRIPTION:Sanctuary is offering an opportunity to register for a workshop on Becoming a Companion sponsored by Pathways to Promise. The Companionship program is a ministry of presence for those who are isolated and suffering\, helping them find the right solutions for themselves. Companionship skills teach how to walk alongside people who need to know they are not alone. Participants will be introduced to the Companionship Model and learn about relational engagement that enables substantial change when helping others. They will also learn the importance of integrating Companionship into their organizations and communities. \nThe registration fee is $60\, which can be reimbursed by Sanctuary following attending the workshop. DESCRIPTION:“Psalm68Five A father to the fatherless\, a defender of widows\, is God in his holy dwelling.” \nPSALM 68:5 was created to serve children with absent fathers because the founder wanted them to understand God’s heart for them. One in four US children live without their father\, which puts them at risk of becoming drug addicts\, school dropouts or suicide victims. This program supports them with scholarships to attend a Christian camp. One of their sites in Michigan is Higher Ground Camp at Lake Louise\, also used by American Baptist camps. One of their partners\, that also provides camp scholarships\, is the Single-Mom ministry\, spearheaded by Jennifer Finnegan-Pool. She will share information about these programs in a video at the Mission Moment on February 4 after worship.

SUMMARY:Mission Moment
DESCRIPTION:Hope Against Trafficking began in 2012 in Pontiac to provide a safe environment and support for adult survivors of human trafficking. They saw a need to restore survivors to thrive and reclaim their lives. At that time there were no long-term recovery programs in Michigan focused on physical\, emotional\, mental\, and spiritual issues as well as life skills and job skills development\, which they now offer. Two important programs include 2-year rent-free housing and a Human Trafficking Overview presented to over 15\,000 people. A certified\, school-based curriculum on Cyber Safety and Security is also taught to K-12 children and youth. SUMMARY:Mission Moment
DESCRIPTION:Our mission offering for the month of April will go to support survivors of domestic violence. The outreach team has selected Centro Multicultural La Familia\, a well established nonprofit that serves the Spanish speaking community in Pontiac. They advocate for services that address the unique needs of limited English speaking residents. Victims and survivors of domestic violence receive quality mental health counseling\, referrals to other resources\, and a peer support group. Debra Ehrman\, Director of Special Projects\, will speak about their impact in Pontiac during the Mission Moment in the Parlor directly following worship today.
